Call for Participation

For the HackThePromise Festival 2024 we are looking for workshops, lectures, panels, live performances, films and other artistic and discursive contributions. We will choose the most interesting submissions to put together an exciting interdisciplinary program and an exhibition.

For the presentations, time slots of 30, 45 or 60 minutes are available. There is also space for installations.

The HackThePromise Festival is organizing this Call for Participation together with the invited Datenschutz-Festival (courtesy of Digitale Gesellschaft). Choose the track that appeals to you! Your choice is not final. Curating the program we will probably reassign talks and presentations to the according tracks.

What is HTP all about?

The HackThePromise Festival sheds light on the promised digital utopias from artistic, social, political and technical perspectives. This year, we will join forces with the Digitale Gesellschaft, co-hosting their yearly Data Protection Festival. The joint focus topic is: “fact/fake/fiction”

So we want to delve into the relationship between fact and fiction, real and generated, factual and illusory. What is true, what is false - and what do algorithms and artificial intelligence have to do with this mess? Can we still trust digital reality? We will talk generative AI, training data and hidden biases. And the authenticity of digital identities. If you are you working on these topics artistically, in education, as a journalist, researching with data or reflecting on regulatory approaches, we would love to hear from you!

Even before the text and image model revolution, it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish the factual from the fake. We will have to find ways to avoid losing ourselves in the fog of illusion, delusion and disinformation. In the digital future, media literacy also means fact/fiction literacy. How and where do we learn about this? In school, with peers, through critical artworks? Because art knows best about fiction. About shades of gray instead of black and white, about blurred distinctions and ambiguity. The desire for reliable facts might be growing, but let's not lose sight of the importance - and the beauty - of fiction.

Do you use films, texts and artistic research to document the growing power of big tech companies and the way they shape our reality algorithmically? Are you committed to anonymity, the diversity of digital identities or network access and would you like to share this work in an enlightening presentation or workshop? Then we want to find out more about your work and give you a platform and a forum.
